BANDITS wearing face masks, yesterday, attacked 10 nuns belonging to the Catholic Order of Sisters of Nativity in Okwungaga town in Ugbokolo, Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State with most of them sustaining different degrees of injuries.

They also snatched a 14-seater Toyota Hiace bus by which the reverend sisters were traveling.

A resident of the area said the attack took place in front of the nuns while they were setting out for morning Mass.

“They were confronted by the armed men who probably waited outside their residence for them as they were proceeding for morning Mass. The armed attackers who were about four stopped the vehicle and ordered the Reverend Sisters to step out and lie on the ground, after which they took possession of the bus and sped off,” he said.

Director of Communications at Catholic Dioceses of Makurdi, Fr. Moses Iorapuu confirmed the attack.

“The armed men snatched the vehicle with registration number, Lagos APP786AS and Chassis Number JTFO2P20O045264 after ordering the nine Sisters on board out and directing that they  lie faced down on the road. I just got information that somebody saw that bus heading towards Ikom in Cross River State but the person did not know that it was stolen,” Fr. Iorpuu said.

According to Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Benue State Command, DSP Catherine Anene, investigation has also commenced into the matter.
