Iwobi explains decision for leaving Arsenal



THE Nigerian midfielder has said that the opportunity to prove himself on a regular basis at Everton was one of the reasons he chose to leave Arsenal this summer.

The Nigeria international completed a deadline-day move to Goodison Park as Arsenal decided to cash-in on the midfielder just before the transfer window closed earlier this month.

The deal is reported to be worth around £28m, but that fee could rise to £34m when add-ons are taken into account.

The 23-year-old has signed a five-year deal with the Toffees and he will be hoping to establish himself as a regular fixture on Merseyside this season.

The attacking midfielder will be hoping to make his debut for Everton in the coming days as he looks to get the season off to a positive start.

And Iwobi has now revealed his thinking behind the move to Everton after the switch went through late in the summer transfer window.

Speaking in an interview quoted by the Daily Mirror, Iwobi said: “I spoke to the manager and Marcel and they almost lured me in.

“The offer was too attractive for me to turn down.”

“The manager was telling me, ‘There is a spot for you, we will take care of you’. Basically, all the things you want to hear as a player.

“I always had that youngster tag at Arsenal, so hopefully with this move I am able to make a name for myself in the Premier League and create history with Everton. It is exciting times for Everton.
