HE spoke on how the oil and gas sector was  before 1991.

According to him,  the sector  was dominated  by multinational companies, Mobil,  Texaco,  Oando, National Oil,  AP,  Shell , some  semi and non-educated individuals.

He said that today in Anambra  State, “the system  remains the same, only that the state government is giving  more attention to location of stations.  However,  there are a lot of imposition of taxes that adversely affect the operations and fortunes of the business.”

Speaking on  why the situation  is as it is today, Dr. Okoye said that,  “it is as a result of human factor,  lack of rapid  economic growth occasioned by lack of necessary infrastructural developments like electricity,  potable water and insecurity.”

On  how he thinks  the oil and gas sector  will be in future, he said  that, “there is great hope for the sector with the new government  policy and NNPC Oil sector  strategy and giving attention to the availability of essential infrastructure.”

On how he  wants the oil and gas sector  to be in future, Dr Okoye said, “a well structured, coordinated oil sector is desired.”

He was of the view that it can be achieved by implementation of a favourable policy and provisions of necessary infrastructure and loan facilities at single digit rate. ‘
