A’Ibom HOS seeks redeployment of more teachers to rural schools

THE Head of Akwa Ibom State Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien, says more teachers should be re-deployed to schools in the rural areas to meet the required teachers- students’ ratio.

Elder Essien said this at the state Secondary Education Board while interacting with staff during the on-going familiarization tour to MDAS.

The HOS observed that there is high concentration of teachers within the urban schools while schools outside urban centers lack teachers even in core subjects like Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, etc.

He said lack of teachers in this core subjects deprives the students the opportunity of competing with their counterparts and having the required subjects at qualifying examinations.

HOS Essien said that subjects like Ibibio, Home Economics, Physical and Health Education are also very important subjects that should be taught in schools to equip the students with basic skills.

On the challenges raised, the number one state civil servant assured that the issues would be looked into.

The offices visited were State Secondary Education Board, Civil Service Commission, Ministry of Education, Internal Revenue Service, and the Ministry of Health, all located within the Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat.
