ARJEN Robben believes Mark Van Bommel has all the right qualities to be a future Bayern Munich manager.

Niko Kovac had a rough first season at Bayern Munich. The Croatian managed to win Bundesliga and DFB Pokal, but there was constant speculation surrounding his future at the club. Every poor performance in the league piled pressure on the former Eintracht Frankfurt manager.

Numerous managers were linked with Bayern during last season as Kovac’s job was under threat. The club chiefs didn’t back him publicly, which further fuelled speculation. They eventually gave him assurances about his future when the club completed the double.

Mark Van Bommel was one of the few managers that were rumored to be in the running for the managerial role at Bayern. The Dutch manager has previously played for the German club and is currently managing PSV Eindhoven.

Speaking to SportBild, Arjen Robben raved about his compatriot’s managerial skills. The former Bayern winger believes that Van Bommel has the right attributes to be Bayern’s manager. He also insisted that Die Roten’s hierarchy rate Van Bommel highly after his impressive spell at the club during his playing days.

“Currently Bayern has a coach, so that’s out of the question. He is a guy who did a great job in his time as a player in Munich. The board appreciates him.”

“Mark has the character that a coach of FC Bayern needs. If he keeps evolving, I’ll be able to introduce him to Munich very well someday.”

Van Bommel succeeded Philipp Cocu at PSV Eindhoven in 2018.

The former Bayern midfielder is yet to taste success with PSV but still managed to impressive results with the Dutch side. They narrowly missed out on the Eredivisie as Ajax won the title by a margin of three points.

There is a long way to go for Van Bommel to eventually become Bayern manager. He has still a lot to learn to manage a top European club. Staying at PSV for a couple of years will be the ideal scenario for the former Dutch midfielder to evolve as a manager. There is no doubt that Die Roten will be keeping a close eye on his progress in Eredivisie.

In this interview, Robben also ruled out an immediate return to football in a different role. The former Dutch winger wants to give time to his family. After enjoying tremendous success in Bavarian colors, the German club might offer him a role at the club when he decides to take another step in football.

Robben has also backed Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry to become key players for Die Roten this season. The duo has more responsibility this season due to departures of Franck Ribery and Robben.

They will have to improve their productivity in the final third to ease the goalscoring burden on Robert Lewandowski. Die Roten has made a good start in the Bundesliga, but their most tough test will arrive in a fortnight as they host RB Leipzig after the international break.
