Arsenal confirm Holding’s return to training

ARSENAL manager, Unai Emery has Rob Holding back in contention for the weekend. The Arsenal official website has confirmed that Holding is back in full training after a lengthy absence.

Holding suffered a long-term injury back in December during a clash with Manchester United. The defender had to undergo surgery on an ACL injury and he has only just made a full recovery.

During pre-season, Holding was given some runouts but he was not fit for the start of the season. The 23-year-old has also been featuring for Arsenal’s Premier League 2 side as he aims to get back to speed.

Holding now faces the task of getting back into the Arsenal line-up. There are four other centre-backs to compete with: Calum Chambers, David Luiz, Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos. Dinos Mavropanos is still sidelined with a groin injury.

Emery needs to ensure that he does not rush Holding back. ACL injuries take time and he will not want to aggravate the injury. But having Holding back is a confidence boost ahead of a busy schedule.

The ex-England U21 defender will hope to regain his starting spot once fit. And he gives Emery more license to switch to a back-three with Holding operating alongside two others in central defence.
