Everton vs Sheffield United match preview

Published

on

BOTH Everton and Sheffield United will be aiming to bounce back from the respective Premier League defeats suffered last weekend. The Toffees were outplayed and outfought by Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday in a 3-1 reverse – a result that leaves Everton with just one win from eight on their travels.

However, Everton have been posting far more at Goodison Park, and this weekend, Marco Silva’s men are aiming to win their 7th straight league match on the blue half on Merseyside. The clean sheets that characterised six of those victories have abandoned Everton of late however, and the Blues conceded at least once in each of their last four games, shipping nine goals in total across that quartet of contests.

Everton did manage to score eight times themselves at the other end in those games however, and the Toffees matches have had a decidedly open feel to them in recent weeks, with ample opportunities and chances for both teams to score. The Blades have started life in the Premier League solidly, taking five points from five game in total and displaying a competitiveness that hints that their chances of staying afloat are high this season.

United’s most recent outing against Southampton was undoubtedly their most disappointing showing of the campaign so far though, and it was their first Premier League fixture where they failed to get on the scoresheet.

In total, Sheffield United scored at least once in five of the six competitive matches they’ve contested since the summer, though they kept their opponents out in only five of those games too. With a pattern of both teams scoring a well-established one in both Everton and Sheffield United’s fixtures this season, we’re tipping goals to go in at either end again at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Everton’s form in front of their own fans is difficult to ignore however. The Toffees won their last six Premier League games at Goodison Park, taking the scalps of Chelsea, Arsenal and Man Utd in the process.
