Team Anambra returns from Nat’l Youth Games with 15 medals

ANAMBRA State finished 12th on the medals table at the 5th National Youth Games hosted by the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Kwara State. The Team Anambra Contingent consisting of 200 athletes and 50 officials amassed a total of 15 medals; 4 Gold, 2 Silver and 9 Bronze medals to better its form in 2018 edition were it finished 16th on the medals table with 3 Gold, 5 Silver and 7 Bronze medals.

 

Meanwhile, Delta State have emerged Champions of the 2019 National Youth Games. The team garnered a total of 104 medals to win the championship back to back as Lagos State maintained its second position just like the previous edition with a total of 72 medals.

 

At the colourful closing ceremony held on Monday at the Maracana Stadium, individual awards were given by the organizers of the Festival. Yobe State won the award of the most behaved/disciplined state, Lagos State emerged tops in the match past event, Delta were awarded the team with the largest contingent while the best kitted Team went to Akwa Ibom.

 

A total of 33 states featured in this year’s championship with 34 sports being performed and an estimated attendance of about 3000 athletes. A total of 178 Gold was won, 177 Silver and 237 Bronze totalling 592 medals.
