CHAIRMAN of Local Government Service Commission, Peter Egenti, has expressed dissatisfaction at the level of development of the nation since it attained political independence from the British Colonial masters 59 years ago.

Dr. Egenti, who gave the indication while speaking to the press in Awka on the nation’s 59th Independence anniversary, noted that the development and events in the country today fall below expectation of the vision of its founding fathers.

He expects Nigerian leaders to be focused in distributing the nation’s wealth equitably and building strong institutions that drive the nation’s economy.

At the state level, he commended Governor Willie Obiano for providing the right kind of leadership and vision which have moved the state to the next level.

He expects the citizenry to key into the ideals of his leadership style to sustain the tempo of development in the state.

In Ogbunike where he hails from, Dr. Egenti expressed delight in the government presence, an indication that the community is not left out in the scheme of things.

In a related development, the state’s Local Government Staff Pensions Board wished Nigerians a happy 59th celebration.

Speaking to the press in Awka on the celebration, the executive secretary of the board, Mrs. Gloria Obiora-Ibezim , paid glowing tribute to Governor Willie Obiano for flying the flag of the state high through his prompt payment of  salaries of workers  in the state.

Mrs Obiora-Ibezim expects the citizenry to reciprocate the governor’s gesture by being more dedicated to their duties.

She further thanked the governor’s wife, Chief Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano for using her CAFÉ programme to touch the lives of the less privileged in the society.

On his part, the state organising secretary of All Progressives Grand Allaince(APGA), Mr. Anthony Nwakilie frowned at the failure of the operational system of government in Nigeria and called on the Nigerian Government to adopt a system of government that will stabilise the Nigerian policy and put smiles on the faces of Nigerians.

He eulogised the Obiano administration for his giant strides and the All Progressives Grand Alliance Party which has operated for 13 years in the state with impressive records.

The organising secretary prayed that beyond Governor Obiano, APGA as a political party will excel and take the centre stage in  Anambra politics.

Contributing, the Head of Service for Dunukofia Local Government Area, Lady Vin Chika Nwankwo – Ikelie decried the poor state of affairs of the nation occasioned by inconsistencies in leadership, corruption, inequality, insecurity and other vices.

Lady Chika expects the nation’s leaders to be focused, patriotic, humane and consistent in the country’s development goals.

The head of service also eulogised the Igbo culture and tradition, particularly the reverence of the kolanut as demonstrated by Very Rev Fr.Prof.Bona Umeogu during UNIZIK’s 50th inaugural lecture.
