Tammy Abraham set for England call-up

CHELSEA striker, Abraham has two senior caps to his name and has impressed for the Blues under Frank Lampard this term. Tammy Abraham is in line for an England call-up for the Euro 2020 qualifiers. Gareth Southgate is ready to pick the in-form Chelsea striker which would end any chance of Nigeria poaching him.

Abraham, 21, has already won two senior caps but they were in friendlies with Brazil and Germany and being picked for the qualifiers with Czech Republic and Bulgaria means he would be pledging his allegiance to England.

Southgate knows Abraham from the under-21s set-up and has already enquired as to whether he would accept a senior call-up because he rates him highly and is keen to bring him into the squad.  Three Lions boss, Southgate wants to improve his striker options as there is no way back for Leicester ‘s Jamie Vardy who retired from international duty.

But Southgate does have fitness concerns on Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford who is struggling with a groin problem with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer anxious that is not made worse while on England duty.   United will be keen for Rashford not to be picked if there is any risk which is why the door is open for Abraham with Bournemouth ‘s Callum Wilson the only other back-up for Harry Kane in the last squad.

That leaves England with a striker shortage and Abraham’s early season form for Chelsea has put him in the frame. Abraham still qualifies for Nigeria through his father but being picked for a competitive fixture would tie him down for England.

Southgate could also leave out Kyle Walker again with Kieran Trippier and Trent Alexander-Arnold now firmly ahead of the Manchester City back in the pecking order.  England No.2, Steve Holland went to Spain last weekend to watch Trippier again for Atletico Madrid and the scouting reports have come back full of praise.
