Azia celebrates new yam festival

THESE years annual New Yam Festival was a memorable event for all sons and daughters of Azia  in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State as the festival was celebrated  in conjunction with Nigeria Brewery PLC.

The four- day celebration, which  was done at Azia Civic Centre, attracted a lot of activities, like Azia youth empowerment, dancing competition, masquerading, fashion and also featured the likes of popular Nigerian artist, Chinedu Okoli, popularly known as Flavour, who triggered the event at the peak.

The President General of Azia Improvement Union, Chief Kenneth Mmaduakor, while interacting with newsmen, described Azia New yam Festival as a home coming for all, adding that it featured the reconciliation of warring factions in the community.

He stated that New Yam Festival is a moment of giving thanks to God with the first fruits harvest for giving them  good health and life.

Chief Mmaduakor applauded Azia people for giving him adequate support through out his two tenures in the office as the PG, which motivated him in displaying his duties, urging the new PG elect to carry everybody  along in other to sustain peace, unity and development.

The PG  implored Azia youths to engage in meaningful activities that will make them better citizens of the town and society rather than while away themselves in alcoholism, gangsterism and other societal vices, stressing that the future of every community lies in the hand of the youths.

He prayed to God to guide his successor and give him wisdom to guide the people of Azia to the greatest height.
