THE Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Paulinus Ezeokafor, Thursday, dedicated and baptised the twin baby boys of his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Abuchi Onwumelum and wife, Chidiebere.
The event took place at Chapel of the Good Shepherd, Archbishop Albert Obiefuna Retreat Centre, Okpuno, in Awka South Local Government Council. It witnessed heavy presence of journalists in the state, including the Director, News and Current Affairs Department of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Mr. Gab Okpalaeze, Editor in Chief of Fides Newspapers, Mr Jude Atupulazi, Managing Director of Anambra Signage and Advertising Agency, Chief Jude Emecheta, among other media men and government officials.
Most Rev Dr Ezeokafor said the Catholic Church conducted infant baptism as a way of catching them young and beginning early to introduce the child to the way of the lord. He said the lads needed to be adopted, guided and protected from the sinful world, as no one knows when he or she will go the way of all mortals.
Ezeokafor further stated that baptism washes away the original sin and prepare the baptized for an early journey of eternal race as every soul must be saved
The Catholic Prelate underscored the importance of the willingness of both the parents and godparents of the child in ensuring proper upbringing of the in the way of God.
He emphasised that baptism is one sacrament of initiation through which one becomes member of the church and noted that it is a huge responsibility for both parents and God parents in ensuring that they guide the children to God, adding that god-parenting is not just a portfolio.
Sir Abuchi, a journalist with Fides Newspapers, Awka, expressed gratitude to God on behalf of his family for the journey so far, saying that to the family, baptism is their own responsibility of giving their children the pathway of their faith in the Christendom and assured that the choice of the god parents were made out of personal assessment of individuals of high repute that will always stand by, assist in every given way in ensuring that the children succeed in becoming better people in future.
