Anambra Int’l Conference Centre to be ready soon

GOVERNOR Obiano’s dream towards making Awka the best state capital in the federation  is gradually becoming a reality as the governor visited the site to ascertain the level of work on the International Conference Centre at Agu Awka, Anambra State.

  The governor who paid an unscheduled visit to the site announced that the project which has about 11,000 capacity will be ready for use in April 2020.

  The governor on arrival at the site saw sand filling of the building already completed, with concreting and pillars erection equally at finishing levels.

   According to the governor, even though the contractors gave March, 2020, as date for the project delivery, he decided to give it one month extension to ensure quality job.

   Governor Obiano, who harped on the economic importance of the project expressed satisfaction with  the quality and pace of work.

  “In the whole of south-east, there is no project of this magnitude, the complete structure would be the largest and accommodate a capacity of about 11,000.

  “This centre would attract conferences, trade fares, weddings and serve a whole lot of purpose. It would increase our IGR and add value to Awka city as the state capital”.

  He further urged the contractor to remain resolute and ensure that the work is delivered on schedule.

  The Commissioner for Housing, Mr Mike Okonkwo, who explained that the DPC had been concluded, noted that what stands the project out is its location, capacity and its multi-purpose facility, among others, pointing out that it will generate more income for the state, as well as create direct and indirect jobs.

  “With the intention of the state government to make Awka the best capital state, the project could serve various purposes, for tourist attraction, a place to hold seminars of large capacity. This wonderful project is of world class standard and something that would add value to the beautification of the state.”
