Govt to upgrade Ekwulobia, Mbaukwu general hospitals



GENERAL Hospital Ekwulobia will be provided with adequate diagnostic facility to meet the health demands of individuals.

  This is to promote good health delivery and to discourage medical tourism abroad.

  Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala said this when he carried out an on-the-spot supervision of Ekwulobia General Hospital, Aguata Local Government Area .

  Dr Okpala explained that his visit was to determine the extent of work done by the contractors handling some projects in the hospital.

“I came here to see for myself. It is good to hear from the contractor that he will still deliver as scheduled as well as complete the work in five months.

  “I am also here to know how health workers relate with patients and what the hospital management wants government to do for them.

“We had already discussed with partners and they are ready to invest in this hospital.

“Before the end of next year, this hospital will be provided with gigantic diagnostic facilities.We will have a Cat Scan Machine that will be first of its kind in the state.

  “My interactions with staff members, management of the hospital is on how to ensure good service delivery,” he said.

Dr Okpala also inspected the Eye and Dental Sections of the hospital and pledged his support in ensuring that more equipment would be provided.

  He admonished workers to be committed, punctual to duties and relate with patients in more friendly ways.

Chief Medical Officer of the hospital, Dr Arinze Ugochukwu pleaded that the staff strength should be increased to meet influx of patients to the hospital.

Dr Ugochukwu said that the road leading to the hospital was in critical condition, even though it had been awarded to a contractor.

 “The hospital needs modern equipment, especially the Dental and Eye as well as ambulance,” Ugochukwu said.

  He commended the state government for on  going construction of staff quarters, which according to him, when completed, would enable them to work round the clock to promptly respond to patients’ needs.

  Meanwhile, Following facility inspection of the General Hospital Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area (LGA), Anambra Health Commissioner, Dr Vincent Okpala has reassured of government’s intervention in the facility.

Dr Okpala said the essence of his visit to Mbaukwu General Hospital, was for physical assessment of what was on going in the hospital and to intervene  towards redressing the situation.

 “It is actually an opportunity to come and see what is happening here and I have interacted with the hard working doctor in-charge.

  “Our goal is to promote Public Private Partnership (PPP) so that we can get more people to patronise the system

 “We noticed infrastructure problems — leaking roof, absence of perimeter fencing as well as absence of adequate security, so as to address them.

“Our goal for coming is to identify the key things that are needed here, so that we can get them,” the commissioner said.

  Chief Medical Officer of the hospital, Dr Ijeamaka Imo thanked the commissioner for coming to assess the hospital.

  She pleaded with government to help them in renovating the facility and to have good access road into the facility.

  According to Dr Imo, the hospital needs equipment such as, scanning machine, drugs and perimeter fencing.

    She promised to discharge her duties faithfully, so that more lives would be saved in the community and environs.

Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Obiano on General Hospital Matters, Mrs Nwamaka Arinze and the SSA on Medical Supplies and Facilities, Mrs Onyedikachi Oluchi were among the team that visited the hospital.
