THE traditional prime minister of Uli, Chief Frank Igwe has
expressed delight in the rapid
transformation of the Anambra Newspapers and printing Corporation for
effectively informing, educating and entertaining its readers beyond the shores
of Anambra State.
The traditional
prime minister gave the commendation
while performing his 14th “Iwa Ji” celebration at Uli.
According to him,
the quantum leap was made possible by Governor Willie Obiano, who upgraded some
facilities in the corporation and provided the necessary assistance for it to
thrive.
In a special
tribute, he lauded the Managing Director/Chief Executive Office of the
corporation, Sir Chika Nnabuife for injecting an unprecedented dynamism and
zeal in the National Light Newspaper.
This, he said, has launched the paper to limelight.
He encouraged the
multi-talented journalists of the corporation to forge ahead in the competitive
profession.
Chief Igwe used the
forum to call for peace and unity to take the centre stage in Nigeria.
He also used the
forum to display the imperatives of the new yam celebration in Igboland and
enjoined the Igbos to hold tenaciously to Igbo cultural values.
Chief Igwe commended
his guest drawn from the traditional institution, the Police, the Federal Road
Safety Corps, the sponsors of the cultural carnival, the MTN, GLO, Etisalat,
Airtel, network’s Survey or (Dr) Innocent Ezeomedo from the Chukwuemeka
Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli, among others for gracing the 2019 new yam festival.
On his own part, the
President General of Uli Progressive
Union, Tobias Obiagozie expressed
delight that the Igbo culture has come to stay and encouraged Igbos to stick to
their cultural practices which the celebration of the new yam connotes.
Obiagozie
appreciated the gesture of the traditional prime minister of the community
following the “Iwa Ji” of the community’s traditional ruler, Igwe Onyekaonwu.
The PG used the
occasion to commend Governor Willie Obiano for launching the second part of the
operation “Kpochapu” in the state, and urged him to do more for the people of
the state.
Highlights on the occasion were the traditional cutting of
the yam by the “Onowu” of Uli, cultural displays, among others.
