Driver kills union member over N100

A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy who was identified as Masudu Yushua was found dead after his body was recovered from a shallow well located at Danbare Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident, which occurred yesterday threw residents of the ward in confusion as many wondered whether the boy strayed into the well or he was thrown into it as punishment.
Confirming the death, spokesman for Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saidu Mohammed stated that the incident occurred at about 11:39 a.m.
“We received a distress call in the early hours of Wednesday from one Malam Sani Maikaji , at about 11:39 am, that a boy had fallen inside a well.
On receiving the information, we quickly sent our rescue team to the scene at about 11:45 a.m. Yushua was found dead and his corpse later handed over to the ward head of Danbare, Alhaji Magaji Kasim,” he said.
In a related development, an Ado Ekiti Magistrates’ Court yesterday ordered that a commercial driver, Ismaila Bello, 20, be remanded in prison for murder.
Bello is standing trial for allegedly killing a member of transporters union, Femi Ajayi, following a quarrel over N100 daily levy imposed on commercial drivers in Igogo town of Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
According to police prosecutor, Inspector Oriyomi Akinwale, he committed the offence on September 25, 2019, in contravention of Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
“The defendant, who is a driver, was given N100 daily ticket by the union. On his way back, he was asked to pay the money for the ticket but he refused.
In the process, it resulted in a crisis and one of the members deflated his vehicle tyre, which angered him and he beat the deceased with a deadly charm. The deceased died in the process of being rushed to the hospital.”
