ANAMBRA State Government has restated its commitment toward
support to all communities affected in this year’s flood disasters by donating
drugs and other relief materials to victims.
Anambra Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala said this
at Atani Holding Centre, Ogbaru Local Government Area, while handing over drugs
and other relief materials to the Transition Committee Chairman.
While commending
effort of stakeholders from the LGA in attending to the victims, he said that
Gov. Willie Obiano has shown deep concern and wished the communities speedy
recovery from disasters.
“We don’t want the citizens to suffer too much. So, we are
doing our best to alleviate their sufferings by making medications and relief
materials available to them.
“The chairman made efforts in housing some victims and we
also came with State Medical Quick Response Team who will be available to
attend to your health challenges.
“We have physicians, nurses that will be deployed to the
affected communities; in addition to disease surveillance notification officers
who will monitor to see that there is no outbreak of diseases,” he said.
The Chairman, Arinze
Awogu, applauded the Government for its pro-active measures in organising
numerous medical supplies for displaced victims.
“Ogbaru LGA is the most affected in this year’s flood
disaster in the state. We did not imagine that it was going to be this bad.
“But, gradually we saw our homes being submerged and our
people forced to abandon their homes and to take refuge in holding centres.
“We have no fewer than 600 displaced flood victims in our
centres at Odekpe, Ossomala and
Ogwuikpele,” he said.
Mr. Awogu expressed joy at the prompt intervention by government
while noting that all the drugs and relief materials would be used judiciously.
