Obiano commends pace of work at Int’l Conference Centre project



Solicits Anambra women’s partnership in anti-cultism, drug abuse

PACE of work at the on-going project for construction of an ultra-modern multi-purpose International Conference Centre, Awka, has been commended.

  Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, gave the commendation while speaking during an impromptu visit at the construction site in Agu Awka on Tuesday, expressing confidence in the completion and delivery timeline set for the project by its contractors.

  According to the governor, with construction of pillars at its final stage and ready to receive walls for roofing, both pace and quality of work he met on ground justifies the confidence reposed in the contractors by his administration – adding that government will continue to give them all necessary support to ensure that the project is completed on schedule.

  Gov. Obiano also explained that imported components for the structure was already in place, noting that when completed the project will transform Awka to global standard mega city and also improve Anambra State economy.

  Earlier while welcoming the governor, a consultant of the project, Ifeanyi Okoma said that his firm was leaving no stone unturned to deliver the project in time according to specifications.

  In a related development, Gov. Willie Obiano has solicited Anambra women’s partnership to tackle drug abuse, cultism and drug related vices in the state.

  Gov. Obiano made the call while speaking when he participated in leadership training for community women leaders in Anambra State that he flagged off at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre, Awka.

  The event, which has the theme “Role of Community Women Leaders for Sustainable Development” has his wife, Dr. (Mrs) Ebelechkwu Obiano as a key facilitator.

  Describing women as nucleus of development in the state, Gov. Obiano stressed that women should pay closer attention to activities of their children and not leave it to their teachers and lecturers alone.

  According to him, government will train about 2000 youths by the end of the year after which they will be given seed money.

  The governor also used the forum to disclose that the third phase of community-choose- your-project initiative will commence by January next year, and called for more independence on the part of Anambra women.

  Also speaking, Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano said that the present administration had entrenched community development and strengthened grassroots governance and commended the governor for their strategic interventions.
