THIS past weekend
witnessed the Phase II State Tour of Virtuous Widows Association to Delta State
Communities in Ndokwa West and Ukwuani LGAs. These communities included Ogume,
Abbi, Umuaja and Kwale.
At Ogume, women
defied the heavy rainfall to be part of this great association. While speaking,
the founder and president of the association, Ifeyinwa Egbosiuba, said that the
association was nonpolitical but seeks to uphold the rights of widowhood
through awareness and sensitization programs through advocacy and empowerment
initiatives towards enhancing the welfare of widows.
During the event,
she announced the appointment of Caroline Anoka of Ogume as the South South
Zonal Coordinator and Rita Okonye as the South South Zonal Secretary. She
thanked them for their selflessness and dedication to work and encouraged them
to do more in reaching out to more widows who are in serious need for
assistance.
During the events,
great number of women where gifted with wrappers and souvenirs. The women
showered prayers on the president and members of her national team.
High point of the
event was the visit to the Fish Farm and Oil Mill established by the South
South Zonal Coordinator by the National Team located at Ogume. While on the
facility tour, the president, Mrs Egbosiuba, was greatly impressed and appreciated
her efforts, saying that this goes to show that widows can be self-reliant and
also be an employer of labor rather than waiting for handouts.
Over 1000 new
members were registered during the tour.
Amongst the visiting
national team were the Anambra State Coordinator, Mrs Uche Ubaka, Mrs. Rita
Okonye and the Media National Coordinator, Comrade Obi Ibegbunam.
