Manchester City vs Aston Villa match preview

THEIR victory over Crystal Palace last weekend wasn’t as flamboyant as we’re used to seeing from Manchester City, but it was a much needed three points and they followed it with a 5-1 thrashing of Atalanta in the Champions League.

Aston Villa won’t be pushovers on Saturday though. The newly promoted side struggled at the start of the season as their contingent of new signings gelled into the squad, but a 2-1 win over Brighton last weekend gave them their first back-to-back Premier League wins this season, pushing them up to 12th in the table and three clear of the drop zone.

Defensively there is plenty of work for Aston Villa to do – they have conceded in all but two league games this season – but things are looking good at the other end of the pitch. They have netted 15 times in nine matches and have only failed to find the net twice.

The Villains maintain this attacking threat away from home too, scoring eight times in four Premier League away days. That being said, they have conceded eight times on the road too, so Manchester City’s attackers will be confident of breaking their fragile back line.

City’s  defence isn’t quite impressive, conceding an average of one goal per game in the Premier League and failing to keep a clean sheet on five occasions. They have still won 11 of their last 13 home games in the league, so we think a Manchester City Win and Both Teams to Score is a great bet.

Man City have averaged 2.76 goals per game in these 13 home outings as well, so we’re definitely expecting them to put a few past Aston Villa. For this reason, we like the look of a 3-1 correct score prediction.
