AS THE Operation
Kpochapu II crackdown on criminal elements goes full swing, the joint
state-wide patrol of Anambra Police Command and other security agencies have
arrested 115 suspected criminals.
The suspects were
picked up from raids at various locations, particularly Upper Iweka road and
Aba-Owerri road areas of Onitsha metropolis.
Out of the 115
suspects arrested, 90 were connected with cases of pick pocketing, hand bag
snatching, Indian hemp smoking and sundry crimes while 25 suspects were
arrested in connection with illegal revenue collections.
Police Public
Relations Officer (PPRO) of Anambra State Command, Haruna Mohammed, disclosed
this while parading the suspects at Police Area Command, Onitsha.
According to him,
the operation was coordinated by the Area Commander, Onitsha, who promised that
security of lives and property will continue to be top priority in the present
administration in the state.
“All the cases are
under investigation as those found wanting will be charged to court while the
innocent ones will be released unconditionally,” he said.
He pointed out that
logistics provided by the state government boosted and supported the operation.
Haruna also
disclosed that Police have reunited two children rescued from a child stealing
syndicate with their families, adding that they were handed over to their
families under the cover of Gombe State Police Command for further
investigations and prosecution.
The two children,
Mustapha Abdulazeez, two years, and Wahlid Yusuf, three years, were reportedly
playing outside their family house in Gombe State on Sunday 20th October, 2019,
when they were reported missing.
Investigations
revealed that each of the children were sold for N750, 000 only.
The three suspects
who were paraded last weekend : Blessing Joe from Bauchi State, Ngozi Tisiobi
from Achina, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra and Faith Okpa, from Ugep,
Cross River State, had initially denied their involvements but changed their
stories after the children identified their parents.
While handing over
the children to their families, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr John
Abang, represented by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Haruna Mohammed
reassured of the commands preparedness to nip crime in the state in the bud.
