Catholic Bishop of
Awka Diocese, Paulinus Ezeokafor, has admonished Christians to always identify
with charitable works for the propagation of the gospel as a way of showing
appreciation for God’s blessings and kindness to mankind.
Most Rev Dr Ezeokafor gave the charge in a homily during
the rededication of St. Theresa’s
Catholioc Church, Nibo, in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State,
last Sunday.
The prelate lauded the parish priest, Rev. Fr. John Bosco
Ezekoli, vicar and entire parishioners for erecting the magnificent edifice
together with asphalting of roads within the church premises, sponsored by
philanthropic indigenes of the community.
He cited the biblical narration of 10 lepers healed by Jesus
Christ out of whom only one returned to show appreciation as proof that God
expects mankind to glorified Him.
He further described the event as a reunification of
Catholic faithful in Nibo community, pointing out that with the rededication,
no other major construction would be done in the church except minor repairs,
describing it as true replica of the beauty of St. Theresa, patroness of the
parish.
“Investing in church projects pleases God and such gestures
attract great divine rewards “he explained, adding that churches are symbolic
place of congregation by Christians on earth before the greater congregation in
heaven after earthly sojourn by true believers.
He urged the people to uphold the prevailing spirit of
unity, brotherly co-existence and commitment to the development of the parish,
just as he tasked them to explore the possibility of extending the asphalt to
the main junction for easy access to the church.
The parish priest,
Rev. Fr. Ezekoli, in an appreciation speech during a civic reception for the
august visitor, which also featured presentation of honourary awards to these
who contributed to the growth of Catholicism in the area, thanked Bishop
Ezeokafor for the visit and fatherly guidance of the parish to attain such enviable height.
Among the 34 award
receipts were Innocent Akuvue, President
General of Nibo, who sponsored the roofing and ceiling and asphalting of the
road within the church premises, as well as Mr. Kanayo Nwafor, Chairman of the
building committee.
Others are Noble Sir Emmanuel Chiedu, Chief Kanayo Ughamadu,
Dr. Dave Obiano, Rev.Fr.Innocent Nwafor and the
late Ozomma Willie Anachebe.
