Yellow Fever: 150 die in Katsina

THE yellow fever epidemic which hit residents of Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State has claimed more 35 lives to bring its casualty toll to about 150 people after 115 had earlier fallen victims.

  Reports monitored in the affected communities indicate that the actual figure may be more because most settlement that witnessed an outbreak of the disease in difficult-to-reach areas which may not help with collation of data.

  While eyewitness accounts said that more than 115 people had died by Monday, local government authorities claimed only 18 people died in three weeks of the epidemic.

  But Executive Secretary of Katsina State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Shamsu Ahmad. disclosed that 6,729,000 people were recently immunised against yellow fever across the state.
