GOVERNOR Willie Obiano of Anambra has promised a hitch free
Christmas for ndi Anambra even as his government has invested heavily in
tackling security challenges and mass rehabilitating of roads in the state to
ensure smooth drive during the festive season.
The governor, who
spoke through the deputy governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke at the National Stadium,
Abuja, during the Anambra Day celebration, said he was amazed at the tremendous
crowd from various towns who gathered to celebrate the success story of
Anambra. He stated that the governor would have liked to attend but was
unavoidably absent. He stated that the government has placed agriculture on the priority list, stressing that the government
has made tremendous success ensuring food abundance for the citizenry.
He commended agro
allied investors who have recorded great success in rice production, cassava,
yam, among others, noting that Coscharis produces 40,000 tons of rice. He said
the governor had assisted 1500 farmers to ensure mass rice production.
On education and
health sector, the governor said that education holds key to the economy and
that is why the government invests heavily. “Anambra students received gold
medal for outstanding performance in world competition and government has also
invested heavily to ensure continuity and qualitative education”. He said that
primary health care programme has been made easy because of the introduction of
health units in villages.
The governor
commended the organisers of the event and the rich display of the culture and
tradition of ndigbo.
He expressed joy for
the winner of a new Toyota Camry won by Chizoba Mnogbo from Nawfia, in Njikoka
Local Government Area. Other consolation prices were won by various
participants.
Those in attendance include representative of the Minister,
Federal Capital Territory, Abuja town union presidents, Liaison officer in
Abuja. The various town unions exhibited their rich cultural display, including
masquerades such as Ijele, Izaga, Akwunache Enyi, Muo Ogonogo of Onitsha and
others.
It was a Joyous
moment even as other groups from other South Eastern State joined in
solidarity.
The President General
of Anambra towns unions, Ike Iwenofu while commending the governor for his
resourcefulness, said the huge turn out was as a result of impeccable track
record of Chief Willie Obiano, stressing that ndi Anambra are proud of him
having touched many lives.
