ANAMBRA State Ministry of Youth Empowerment and Creative
Economy, in collaboration with UNIZIK
Business School (UBS), Awka, has finalised plans to launch the Youth
Entrepreneurship Start-up programme.
Speaking during a press briefing held at the ministry in Awka, Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, Afam Mbanefo said the idea was to“create 300 youth entrepreneurs who will also be employers of labour.
The core objective of this programme is hinged on assembling 300 creative and innovative youths with good business potentials and prospects and training them in core business principles.”
Mbanefo added that
the programme was developed with the UBS and will include monitoring and evaluation
of successful candidates. “This is in line with the actualisation of Governor
Willie Obiano’s plan for youths of Anambra”.
He stated further
that there’re other programmes in place for youths of the state to key into,
such as Smart Jobs, One Youth, One Skill, Digipreneur Hub, Youth in Agric,
among others.
He concluded by
saying the programme will be a one of a kind as it will bring youths to the
fore and drive them to be creative.
On his part,
Director, UBS Augustine Nnonyelu commeneded the state government and the
ministry for trying to change the narrative in Anambra State.
According to him,
“lack of employment is a problem for us in the school and we made a proposal to
the state government which was accepted.
“This will be the
best collaboration between government and the education institution.”
Prof. Nnonyelu
hinted that the school will teach the skills while government will provide the
financial support to empower them.
He concluded by
saying the programme “will be game-changing for the state.”
Interested
participants are urged to log on to www.anambrayouths.ng for registration which
ends on January 15, 2020. Thereafter, 300 persons with creative and innovative
business potentials and prospects will be selected for a two week core business
training after which 100-150 exceptional participants will be selected and
empowered.
The programme is
open to youths who are strictly between ages 18-35.
