THE activities lined up for the 40th series of Ahiajioku
lecture in Imo State is an indication that Governor Ihedioha is seriously
poised to retract Imolites and Ndi Igbo in general to the tradition, customs,
norms and values of Igbo race, no matter the efforts of wishful thinker’s
propoundment that Igbo language and tradition will soon go into extinction,
because of this, Imo people has shown
their readiness to welcome unprecedented guests that will troop into the state
for the cultural outing.
Speaking to
journalists on the preparedness of the Ahiajioku 2019 Committee, the Director
General of Ahiajioku institute, Dr. Amanze Obi hinted that the 2019 edition
scheduled to hold from the 29th of
November to 30th November, 2019, is expected to accommodate
all the states in participation, just unlike before when only the south east
alone participated.
Dr. Obi, who is the Maiden Director General of the institute said that thumbs are supposed to be raised for Governor Emeka Ihedioha for making the Ahiajioku an institute for the development and maintenance of Igbo cultural and over all tradition. He further said that come 29th of this month, there will be arts exhibition followed by the festival colloquium with Prof.
ABC Nwosu presiding, Prof. Nwosu according to him, will also take a turn in speaking on a topic, “challenges of leadership in a contemporary Igbo society”. He said that on Friday, the 30th of November will climax the event with a cultural night slated to be at the popular Imo council of arts and cultural at Mbari cultural centre, Owerri. He pointed out that all prominent citizens of Imo and Igboland in general will be present at the event. Two eminent sons of Igboland to chair the event are commodore Ebitu Ukiwe (Rtd) and Igwe Alfred Achebe, the Obi of Onitcha.
Donald Ekenta, a
member of the committee used the occasion to call on Igbo youths to embrace the
event as to instill Igbo patriotism in them for future leadership; he further
told the youths to take education
seriously and eschew all forms of immoral acts capable of derailing them from
focusing from direction of preparing to take over mantle of leadership from
their fathers. Other personalities at the briefing include, Imo Commissioner of
Works, EnBen. Ekwueme, PDP State Secretary, Nze Ray Emeana, Engr. Augustine
Okeke and others.
