ANAMBRA State Government’s superlative performance in healthcare has continued to attract commendations from Ndi Anambra.

Mr Cyril Umezinwa, a facilitator during the Basic Healthcare Provision Training made the commendation while interacting with Information Officers at the Civic Centre, Akpo, Aguata Local Government Area .

`Gov. Willie Obiano is a good governor that did not emerge from the blues; even after leaving office, we shall still cherish him and development strides that he introduced.

“Appointment of a viable young man, in the person of Dr Vincent Okpala as Commissioner for Health is a good step in the right direction.

“The commissioner has taken time to visit health facilities across Anambra, to ascertain what it is like at present and suggest ideas on how they can be made better,” he said.

“The healthcare provision of Anambra State is second to none in Nigeria. With the way Dr Okpala is handling health issues, we shall soon meet up with international standards.

“Training and retraining of healthcare givers, immunisation awareness as partnership with Churches, schools and markets have made immunisation in Anambra a household issue,” Umezinwa said.

He noted that people were beginning to appreciate the importance of immunisation, and in turn, making the job easy for immunisation officers.

“The Anambra Health Insurance Scheme is another legacy that will speak  volumes for Gov. Obiano years after he must have left office.

“It is affordable at N12,000 per annum, where one is entitled to quality healthcare at accredited hospitals across state,” he stressed.

Umezinwa explained that the introduction of Health Insurance Scheme would eliminate activities of traditional birth attendants,, patronage of quacks, engaging in self-medication as well as, save women from complications arising from the menace.

“Once you can walk into a hospital, get proper healthcare without bothering about paying exorbitant bills, the idea of devoting attention to traditional birth attendants will be defeated,” he noted.

The facilitator noted that Obiano had done well in the area of security, which had invariably helped in attracting international donors and federal health programmes to the state.

“If the tempo is sustained beyond Obiano’s tenure, Anambra State will start receiving people on health tours.”
