A 43-YEAR-OLD resident of Amuwo Odofin Estate in Lagos, Lagos State, Amarachi Chukwuneke, was yesterday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defiling his six-year-old daughter.

His arraignment followed his arrest after he was reported by neighbours.

According to the prosecutor, ASP Benson Emuerhi, Chukwuneke committed the offence on November 4,  at his residence when his wife was not around.

“The mother noticed that the girl always cried anytime she washes her private part while bathing. She decided to take her to the hospital for a medical checkup, and it was at the hospital that the child was confirmed to have been defiled,” he told the court.

Emuerhi stated that the offence contravenes section 137 of Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and punishable with life imprisonment upon conviction.

Directing that Chukwuneke should be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre, Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat, said that he would remain in remand pending advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The case was adjourned until February 27.
