IN its bid to help improve on the proficiency of English
Language and promote the spirit of competitiveness among primary school pupils
in the state, IYKCANADA Writing Concepts held her second annual English Quiz
competition.
Speaking at the
event held at City Radio station, Onitsha, Chief Executive Officer Iykcanada
Writing Concepts (ICWC), Ikechukwiu Nwoye, said English Language been taught in
many schools across the country is at a low ebb. The Language being the
nation’s lingua franca deserves to occupy pride of place thus the need to evoke
more interested in promoting the language.
“Children are the
leaders of tomorrow, they deserve maximum support that’s the reason we want to
catch them young. The vision behind this competition is to encourage pupils to
be more serious with the study of English Language. Besides being our lingua
franca, it is the world’s number one lingua franca, it’s proficiency is an
essential requirement for transactions, possessing it is an added advantage
both in business and personal life.”
He urged schools
that won prizes to forge ahead for subsequent competitions and encouraged
schools that didn’t perform well to go home and look at their weaknesses and
improve on it. He appreciated the parents’ role in the development of their
children to be useful and responsible to the society.
Head of the Panel of
Judges, Chukwujekwu Nweke, describes the competition as outstanding as it helps
to stimulate the spirit of competitiveness among the pupils and others, “I
think it is a remarkable practice, something good. The pupils are happy, the
result is very good and the teachers excited about their performance. For the
schools that won prizes they did very well and for other pupils they also tried
I wish them the best, I urge the teachers to prepare them better next time.”
Teacher
representative of Classique Height Academy,
Nkwelle Ezunanka, Charity Udu, said was excited about her school coming
top, “I thank God that my school won, beyond adequate preparation, God favoured
us. The competition was transparent, executed with the highest
professionalism. It will go a long way
to make people involved to strive more in whatever they are doing as far as
their academics is concerned. To the
pupils, I want them to always prepare and not relent that they have reached the
height already but with this, it’s just a stepping out to where God is leading.
They should keep it.”
Classique Height
Academy, Nkwelle Ezunaka, Oyi Local Government Area, emerged the overall
winner, Livingstone Int’l Academy, 3-3 Federal Housing Estate, while, Tower
Academy Oba, Idemili South LGA, won the third prize. The best pupil of the
completion went to Chimgozirim Egbo from Livingstone Int’l Academy, Charles
Ebube from Classique Height Academy, and Chidera Victor Tower Academy winning
the third prize.
