ALL roads lead to Ngwo on December 6 and 7, 2019, as the
people of the ancient kingdom honour one of their illustrious sons and Bishop
of Nike Diocese, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Dr. Christian Onyeka Onyia
Bishop Onyia who
would be received by his people in an elaborate welcome party as the first Ngwo
indigenous bishop of the Anglican extraction and the second bishop of Nike
Diocese was enthroned Bishop on May 5, 2019 at the Cathedral Church of Saint
Cyprian, Abakpa Nike, Enugu.
Activities lined up
for the event include, a novelty match and other sundry entertainments on
December 6 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church field Ngwo.
The grand finale
will take place on December 7 with many dignitaries including the clergy,
traditional rulers, captain of industries, political heavy weights from Enugu
and beyond expected to grace the occasion. The traditional ruler of Ngwo Assa,
Igwe Charles Ayalogu will lead other notable royal fathers expected at the
event.
It would be recalled
that Rt. Rev. Onyia was enthroned the second Bishop of Nike Diocese seven
months ago after the retirement of Prof. Evans Jonathan Ibeagha who piloted the
affairs of the diocese for seven years as the pioneer bishop.
Since assumption of
office, Bishop Onyia who is arguably the youngest bishop in the Anglican
Communion made it clear that his main focus is on rural evangelism which he is
pursuing with vigour and resources at his disposal. “My predecessor did a lot
in the urban centres to propagate the gospel; I believe it is time to focus
more at the rural areas to win souls for Christ”, he stated during one of his
interviews.
