ASWAMA installs new taskforce

AWKA South Local Government Area in partnership with Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA), last week, inaugurated a joint sanitation task force to curtail and regulate  indiscriminate refuse disposal and littering  of environment as against environmental laws in the state.

Mr. Amechi Akorah said that the essence of the body was to checkmate the attitude and behaviour of people towards environmental sanitation by adhering to the law of keeping our environment clean and friendly which will promote good health and progress of the state. “There are too many diseases now because of unclean and dirty environment.

Our people are not helping matters, whoever  that is caught defeacating, dumping refuse  along the road, inside gutter where water are meant to flow freely, thereby leading to unhealthy environment and  damages of roads built by government  or at wrong place, will be sanctioned and brought before the ambit of  environmental and sanitation court.

  Mr. Nwuba while robing the task force with their uniforms admonished them not to misuse the mandate given to them and avert any form of intimidation. 

  Speaking during the event, Managing  Director of ASWAMA, Mr Amechi  Akorah noted that the authority has been on check to curbing improper waste disposal and saw the need for partnership with other government agencies such as local government, community based institutions, among others. According to him, the synergy is to ensure that environmental cleanliness is sustained.

  Mr. Akorah frowned at the attitude of traders and residents dumping their waste along the Eke Awka Zik’s avenue and Nkwo Amaenyi axis and warned them to desist from such act by making proper use of dumping bay  ”that area is one of the reasons we are instituting this task force, we want a total stop of dumping waste along those corridors especially as festive period approaches”

 One of the newly inaugurated task force, Mr. Obiora Mogbo in an interview with our correspondent promised that he will discharge he duties diligently “I am someone that likes keeping his environment clean and neat, so I like this kind of job”
