Librarians hold Conference in Awka



MEMBERS og Nigeria Library Association, Anambra State Chapter,Tuesday, held their 2019 Conference and annual general meeting.

The three- day event  held at Prof Kenneth Dike Central E-Library, Awka.

  In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the occasion   Chris Okaka prayed for the success of the program. He said; “I am a part of this program for the past 15years. You have been doing well and before one year, you will come first”.

Chief Okaka praised the director, Dr Nkechi Udeze for her efforts even as he called on God to bless all of them.

  The director of Anambra State Library Service and  acting chairman, Nigeria Library Association, Anambra State Chapter, Dr. Nkechi Udeze had this to say; “Today is the opening ceremony of our annual conference. We combine it with our annual general meeting.

This year’s own is very unique, the topic is: Library for the National Digital Agenda. We are in digital era, every country today is talking about digital agenda. Discussing it today will help librarians to know about ICT compliance. Library is very important for Nigerians to attain digital agenda”.  

Udeze also said that some professional members would present papers which would be criticized critically, while the younger ones are encouraged to write in order to progress.

  In her welcome address, Udeze also stated that library need to be equipped with necessary equipments to achieve the national agenda, even as she acknowledged the support of the commissioner, C. Don Adinuba.

  Prof. E.E. Adomi, while presenting a keynote address had this to say, “it is a great honour to me to deliver a keynote address on this day; conference/annual general meeting of Nigerian Library Association, Anambra State Chapter. It is not only library that need digital agenda, individuals can also have their own digital agenda”.

 While declaring the conference open, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightment, C. Don Adinuba said that the wind of change across Anambra State, the wind of excellence had also touched the Library Board. He said; “I introduced the director of this library board for winning the first prize in the whole country. Nkechi Udeze won the first prize.”

  The commissioner narrated so many areas that Anambra State showed excellence in Nigeria.

  Adinuba explained that the government of Anambra State, under the leadership of Governor Willie Obiano is doing  a good job in Anambra State library world. He stated, “Government of Anambra State is reworking, remodeling the library in Onitsha.

We are also going to work on other libraries. Government directed me to develop the plan to ensure that all the libraries are interlinked.”

  Rev. Prof. C.O. Nwosu, in his goodwill message said that he was grateful to God and narrated that he was a pioneer chairperson of Anambra State Library Chapter for 10 years. He praised the effort of the library as they won the best library in Nigeria, even as he commended Doctor Nkechi Udeze for her effort.

In her remarks, Amaka Josiah-Okoli appreciated the director, Nkeechi Udeze  for being  energetic, very wild in organising programs.

 In their separate speeches, the Head of Department Library/Information, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Dr Norbet Amechi Agbanu and retired senior Deputy University Librarian (ASUTECH), Nwamefor Raphael eulogised Nigerian Library Association, Anambra State for their effort.
