Transport ministry set to tackle VIOs challenges



ANAMBRA State Commissioner for Transport, Christian Madubuko, has assured officers of Vehicle Inspection Unit (VIO) of his readiness to tackle some of the challenges militating against their optimal performance.

He told the officers that under his watch, the unit would be paid adequate attention and enabling support services to assist the officers in their routine assignments, especially while on road.

The commissioner, who was speaking during a meeting with the officers of the unit in his office at Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka, said two towing vans would soon be provided for them.

He announced that after due consultations, an administrative change had been effected in the leadership of the unit, saying that the changes were done in good faith and not with punitive intentions.

“That Mr Emenike Atuegbunam, has taken over from Mr Chris Okeke as the new head of VIO Department, while Mr Okeke has been moved to head Water Transportation Unit.”

While commending the out gone Head of VIO Unit, Mr Okeke for his achievements, he urged the officers to support the new leadership to enable him consolidate on gains made so far.

He enjoined them to shun gossips and embrace diligence, hard work and honesty in the discharge of their duties, stating that award awaits any of them that distinguished himself in the service.

Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Obiano on Public Transport, Mr Ralph Okoye, said he was not unmindful of the challenges confronting the unit as effort had been made to address them.

He thanked the commissioner for considering it proper to hold the meeting and called on the officers to work as a family to deliver targets set for the unit.

Three Zonal Commanders of the Unit for Nnewi, Awka and Onitsha, Mr Daniel Eze, Mr Chukwueloka Obidoa and Mr Offozo Aburi respectively identified some of their challenges to include, logistics, litigations and welfare packages.
