A’Ibom commits N2b to reconstruct Itu-Calabar highway

AKWA Ibom State Government has said that it had sunk-in over N2 billion in the on-going reconstruction of some collapsed portions of the Itu-Calabar Highway stretch in the state.

Gov. Udom Emmanuel accompanied by some top government officials, gave the hint during an inspection of the major site of the project at Ntak Inyang, Itu Local Government, on Tuesday.

The governor said that the task of finding immediate solution to the collapsed portion of the road and in controlling the high risk of erosion in the community brought extra financial burdens, explaining that it has put his administration on a difficult position considering the level of inflation and high exchange rate in the country.

Emmanuel stated that his administration was committed to the responsibilities of ensuring that the people of the state, the numerous visitors and investors have motorable roads to and from the state.

The governor expressed satisfaction at the extent of ingenuity by the contractors in rebuilding the failed portions of the road to restore regular traffic for those getting in and out of the state.

Commissioner of Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang Eyen, told the governor that the road had entirely caved in, obstructed the reach of communities and affected the flow of economic and social services.
