Anambra aglow for Christmas



THE entire landscape of Anambra State has once again come aglow as preparations for traditional festivities to mark 2019 Christmas season near their peak, with Gov. Willie Obiano inspecting decorations on landmarks at strategic locations to bring public spaces up to speed with prevailing yuletide mood.

With this, Christmas activities have been flagged off in Anambra State.

Areas visited by the governor include Upper Iweka Roundabout in Onitsha and Prof. Kenneth Dike Library, Awka, where the symbolic switching on of Christmas light was held among others.

Gov. Obiano was accompanied by all members of the State Executive Council, Members of Anambra House of Assembly, political party stalwarts and other stakeholders, who were all soaked in festive mood.

Assuring residents and returnees of adequate security during and after the festive periods, while speaking at the occasion, Gov. Obiano stated that the event is part of his administration’s commitment to bringing ndi Anambra to the true meaning of Christmas.

This, the governor said, is sacrifice and love.

He used the opportunity to woo more investors to Anambra State, pledging that the present administration had for long stepped up conducive environment for legitimate businesses to thrive.

Also in his remarks, Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Greg Obi said that the event which has become yearly a credits Gov. Obiano with uncommon tradition of the sages which, he regretted, were lacked by his predecessors.

Obi stated that the transformation of the once dreaded Upper Iweka area into a public resort and tourist site gives more credence to Gov. Obiano’s peerless sense of tradition.

The symbolic switching-on at Upper Iweka Onitsha was performed by Speaker of  Anambra House of Assembly, Uchenna Okafor, while the Awka version was handled by Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Kate Omenugha, supported by Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Obiano, James Eze.

The event witnessed fireworks displays and other side attractions.
