Checkmating burial expenses: Anglican Church bans brochure, others

DIOCESE on the Niger, Anglican Communion has announced the banning of ceremonial dresses, brochures and others during burial rites of its members in order to checkmate burial expenses.

The priest in charge of St. Andrews Church, Obosi, Ven Ikechukwu Ihemtuge who disclosed this during the Sunday service, said the diocese took the decision at its June 2019 Synod of its Archdeaconry at Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area.

According to him, the decision was aimed at checkmating frivolous burial expenses of the faithful and reducing burial challenges of its members.

“The church has recently discovered that many people during  burial of their loved ones encounter lots of challenges in the name of befitting burials.

He stated that befitting in Christian burial is the relationship established between the people, their God and worthy legacy left behind by the deceased.

He said that the visiting officials of the synod implementation committee will be in every burial ceremony to ensure total compliance to the ban.
