Carlos Vela on Barca’s Radar

JONATHAN dos Santos claims Carlos Vela has received an offer from Barcelona who wants to sign him in January after a stunning season in the MLS. Barca are said to have reignited their interest in Vela ahead of next month’s transfer window thanks to his impressive performances at Los Angeles FC.

But it is true, he has that offer on the table [from Barcelona] LA Galaxy star Jonathan dos Santos.

The Mexico international left Europe in 2017 and moved to America a year later where he has been stellar for the LA club.

The winger has recorded a staggering total of 38 goals and 12 assists in 36 appearances for Los Angeles FC.

The 30-year-old helped Bob Bradley’s side finish top of the Western Conference by 16 points and defeated rivals LA Galaxy in the MLS play-offs before their 3-1 loss to the Seattle Sounders in the final.

Vela finished the season as the top scorer in the MLS ahead of others stars like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who left LA Galaxy soon after.

Dos Santos, who spent five years at Barcelona, claims that his fellow Mexican’s performances have impressed the Catalan giants and they are now planning to make an offer in the New Year.

The LA Galaxy star doesn’t know what Vela’s intentions are but he knows he is happy in the US.

Dos Santos told W Radio: “As I am now on vacation, I have not had much contact with him.

“But it is true, he has that offer on the table [from Barcelona]. I don’t know what he’s going to do.

“He’s very happy in Los Angeles, he had a spectacular season, but Barca looking for you is a very nice opportunity.

“I’m happy for him. As a Mexican, I hope this possibility can be given.”

Vela has addressed previous links with Barcelona and stated that he would be open to moving to the Nou Camp.

However, the former Real Sociedad star seemed more interested in a loan move.

Vela said: “Who could say no to playing with [Lionel] Messi for four months and then coming back to LA? “Enjoy, learn and then come back home.”

Vela came out of Arsenal’s academy in 2005 but failed to find a place in Arsene Wenger’s senior squad following loan stints at Celta, Salamanca, Osasuna, West Brom and Real Sociedad. But Sociedad took a liking to him and bought him from the Gunners in 2012.

Vela spent five years at the Anoeta where he scored 73 goals in 250 appearances before moving to LA.
