Golibe Christmas Festival takes off in Onitsha

ONITSHA commercial city will shift focus from business to entertainment as Golibe Festival takes off from Tuesday, December 24, 2019 to Tuesday, January 5, 2020.

The festival according to report is expected to attract over 400,000 guests at the audition and group stages of various competitions scheduled to last for two weeks with estimated 10 million media audience across the globe.

In a statement signed by the Chairman, Golibe Festival, Amalunweze Francis Anatogu and made available to National Light, the festival is conceived to bridge the gap in the quality and diversity of entertainment affordable over this period, with a view to creating lasting memories to those who may be spending the Yuletide festivities at home in Onitsha particularly and Anambra generally.

According to the written statement, Onitsha, being the gateway to the South East of Nigeria provides excellent location for hosting and entertaining the people’s Diaspora visitors and those transiting the state, the statement reads in part.

“The festival has established a platform for job creation and youth empowerment, especially in the areas of performing arts, media and publicity, sports, garments, accommodation and lots more.”

Key events scheduled for the event include; street parade spearheaded by Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, accompanied by dignitaries from government and private sectors in the opening ceremony on December 22,  2019.

Golibe Dreamland, which provides entertainment to over 1000 families running from December 15 to January 5, 2020.

Football event which started since 1st November will see its grand finale on December 26, 2019. Masquerades parade which will attract masquerades from all over South East is scheduled to feature on December 29, 2019. Golibe Pageant and fashion show comes on December 27, 2019.

Arts, crafts, fashion exhibitions, dance, drama,  will feature from December 23 to December 31, 2019, while food court runs from December 15, 2019 to January 5, 2020.
