New minimum wage: Anambra won’t disappoint workers – Gov

… Targets N3b IGR

ANAMBRA State Government is not looking back on its commitment to paying the N30,000 new national minimum wage to workers in the state civil service.

This will not only bring them at parity with civil servants in the employment of federal government as was recently signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari, but also benefit further increment beyond N30,000 as an incentive to motivation.

Gov. Willie Obiano stated this in an address he delivered on Tuesday at Chief Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka, during an event to commemorate the 2019 Public Service Day.

According to Gov. Obiano, his administration will leave no stone unturned in its devotion to workers’ welfare through attractive salary and improved conditions of service if the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) base grows to N3 billion.

The governor made the point while reminding workers that his administration increased their salary in 2015 without minding what their peers in other states and federal service were getting. He, therefore, encouraged them to help government increase IGR to N3 billion by plugging all leakages and reporting those that divert government revenues in the fight against corruption.

In his speech, Anambra State Head of Service, Harry Udu, explained Public Service Day as time for stock taking, adding that workers are the engine of governance and economic stability.

“Public Service Day celebration is a special celebration because it makes the last of this decade which in general has been a very productive one for the public service of Anambra State notwithstanding the harsh economic reality of the country.

The Anambra States Public Service has indeed been able to stand amongst its contemporaries in the country and this is given to two very important reasons. First is the wonderful leadership the state has enjoyed over the last 10 years,

especially the greater part under the watch of His Excellency,Dr Willie Mmaduaburochukwu Obiano, the amiable, hardworking and alert Governor of Anambra State. Second is the very dedicated stewardship of most of our colleagues in the state’s service,” Udu stated,

While urging workers to remain focused,  Udu commended Gov Obiano for his prompt payment of salary, provision of mass transit for workers, construction of Creche for babies of nursing mothers in the service, among other welfare packages.
