Fire kills pupil in school building

AT LEAST one student was reportedly dead as fire gutted Patterson Memorial Grammar School, Obosi, in Idemmili North L.GA.

A source told National Light that a section of the school dormitory was burnt when the students were in the open field for night vigil. The source further stated that the victim, an 11-year old student, Chigozie Dimanyichie was asleep in the dormitory when the incident happened.

Confirming the inferno, Anambra Police Image Maker, Mohammed Haruna said the state Commissioner of Police, John Abang has commiserated with the family of the deceased and ordered for a through investigation into the incident.

According to him, the inferno was reported by Rev. Cayelem Anuforo who is the principal of the school. Haruna said that the fire which consumed part of the building was eventually put off by the staff and students of the school, they discovered that Chigozie Dimanyichie who was asleep in the dormitory during the prayer session was caught up in the inferno. He noted that he was burnt beyond recognition.

The PPRO who stated that the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained said detectives led by  CSP Tony Adeyi visited the scene and took the victim to the hospital where he was certified dead.

However, the state government has sent its condolence to both the family of the pupil who lost his life in the fire incident and the entire school.

Secretary to State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, gave the condolence while he was being taken round the scene of the inferno in the school premises.
