Three docked for trading in human skulls

THREE men were yesterday arraigned before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly trading in human skulls.

The defendants who were identified as Kazeem Olanrewaju, 27; Amidu Kazeem, 38; and Muritala Salami, 43, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful possession of human parts punishable under Sections 411 and 238 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Sgt. Modupe Olaluwoye told the court that they committed the offences at 6.00 p.m. on November 21, 2019, along Adeniji Adele Road, Lagos, adding that the second and third defendants were caught in possession of two human skulls which they concealed in a black nylon they had earlier claimed to contain biscuits. But they later confessed to have purchased the skulls from the first defendant, Olanrewaju, who was a cemetery worker.

Although they pleaded not guilty, the defendants are liable to 14-year jail term if convicted of the charge. But Magistrate S.O. Obasa, granted them bail in the sum of N1 million each with two sureties in like sum before adjourning the case until January 20.
