Abattoir operators seek govt assistance

NWAKANWA Abattoir owner and butchers at Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area has called on Government of Anambra State to assist them on the on-going construction works at the abattoir to upgrade the place to ultra- modern standards.

They also lauded the state helmsman for the traffic lights and construction works  on both federal and state roads all over the state that enabled ease of traffic during the yuletide.

Speaking to our reporter, the owner, Nwakanwa Abattoir, Silas   Nwankwo appealed to Governor Obiano to use his good office to assist the abattoir in constructing more stalls, roofing of the slaughter slabs and flooring of the abattoir market.

“We need to thank Governor Obiano for being able to complete the MDG mini project of sinking a borehole and constructing a stall awarded by former Governor Peter Obi in 2014. We also laud him for filling up the potholes and fixing traffic lights on both state and federal roads across the state.

“We the owners of Nwakanwa Abattoir are from Ebonyi State. This abattoir is the major establishment built and managed by Ebonyi indigenes here in Anambra State. We also contribute the largest Internally Generated Revenue in Awka North LGA as a market.

“We want the state govt to help us construct more stalls and to roof our slaughter slab as well as to floor this abattoir cum meat market. This will make here more comfortable for both butchers and customers who patronise us especially during rainy season,” Nwankwo said.

Elder Hillary Nwankwo said that the abattoir market was known for selling calls at affordable price, adding that the much construction work going on has been from individual contributions. He said they need government to come to their aid quickly.

Speaking on behalf of the chairman  of the butchers, Chief Ifeanyi Ideba, the Financial Secretary, Agbom Chukwubuike said that abattoir had been working closely with government veterinary doctors to ensure both healthy meat and environment.

“It was this present executive which has lasted about a year now that constructed the concrete slab working with veterinary doctors and health officers from Ministry of Health but we need government’s assistance to roof the slab because it requires a lot of money”, said Chukwubuike.
