Court of Appeal to commence sittings in Awka



ALL is set for the newly designated Awka Division of Court of Appeal to commence sitting with February 5 slated as the tentative inaugural date.

  Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, dropped the hint in a chat with newsmen during an extempore inspection visit to the proposed court located within the former Customary Court of Appeal, Awka.

  He utilised the visit to express satisfaction with pace of renovation work at the premises which has seen the entire the facility wearing a new look after the state government awarded contract for refurbishment of two units of storied buildings, stating that it was what he met on ground that gave him the hope that the premises would be ready for use within two weeks.

  Gov. Obiano also lauded both the contractors and his team for leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that the project was completed according to specifications, toiling round the clock to deliver on time, predicting that the new court would go very long way in bring appellate justice to doorsteps of everyone who needs it in Anambra State.

  National Light saw the two buildings donning new roofs apart from other iconic renovations that showed the premises in a new facelift. Workers were also seen going about different aspects of the project at post-completion stages to meet the take-off target.

  It will be recalled that a Court of Appeal team, led by Justice Doban Mensah, visited Anambra State on December 6, 2019 to inspect facilities on ground for establishment of the Court’s Division in Awka.
