Four die in Osha, Enugwu-Agidi auto crashes

Two autocrashes which happened in Onitsha and a location within the Enugwu-Agidi axis of the Enugu-Onitsha  Expressway has claimed four lives and many left  with serious injuries.

 The accidents involved a Honda Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), with registration number; GDD 309FK, a Tipper lorry, AWK922SG, a Tanker Lorry, another articulated truck with Registration number XS 254 ENU and two tricycles with Registration numbers  AAH 774 UW and AWK 191 QN.

 Our reporter gathered that officers of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), the state fire service, the police and other security agency  intervened and the remains of the SUV driver  taken away while those injured were taken to a nearby hospital.

 In an interview, the Sector Public Education Officer, FRSC, Paschal Anigbo explained that men of his commission rushed to the scene of the accident immediately they heard of it, attributing the cause of the accident to wrongful overtaking.

 He commended the police and their sister agency for their efforts and intervention at the accident scene. He noted that the corpse of the dead driver who was trapped in his vehicle was evacuated and those injured were taken to a hospital in Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area for treatment.

 Mr. Anigbo further advised motorists to always exercise patience and not to be in a hurry and also have absolute concentration when driving.

 According to an eye witness, Christian Ufo, a trailer was heading to Onitsha when the Jeep driver, trying to overtake the the tanker, collided with an on-coming tipper lorry while the tanker which was loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), ran into the bush while trying to avoid collision with the Jeep.

 Mr Ufo, who expressed gratitude to God for the matured driving of the trailer driver, noted that many vehicles could have been involved as well as lives lost.

 Meanwhile, the traditional ruler of Umunya, Igwe Kris Onyekwuluje has commiserated with families who lost their beloved ones during an accident in which three persons died and one person seriously injured at Mgbuka Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area.

  The crash happened at about 9:20am on Jan. 19 on Mercedes Avenue by Omor Street Mgbuka, Nkpor.

 Describing the deaths as regretting, Igwe Onyekwuluje said that their demise were great losses to their families and state at large.

 He urged the bereaved families to take solace in God, praying Him to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

 According to report by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, the accident involved a Mack articulated truck with Registration number XS 254 ENU conveying a container load of some unnamed items.

 The truck driver, one Amuche Chinedu, a male of Ugwunagbo LGA of Abia State lost control and knocked down two tricycles with Registration numbers  AAH 774 UW and AWK 191 QN.

 The two riders of the tricycles were Sunday Agbafor of Onuofia Igboeze in Onicha LGA of Ebonyi State and Adidu Uchenna of Ugwunagbo LGA of Abia State.

 The truck laden with the container ran into a deep erosion pit while the tricycle drivers together with the conductor of the truck, one Chika died on the spot.

 Police patrol team led by DPO Ogidi Division, CSP Mark Ijarafu visited the scene and evacuated the corpses to the Iyienu Hospital Morgue, Ogidi.

 Meanwhile, the truck driver, who also sustained injuries, is receiving treatment at the hospital as at the time of the report.

 Commissioner of Police, CP John B Abang, who commiserated with the bereaved families, ordered an investigation to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident
