SAINT Charles College, Onitsha, Old Boys Association (SCOBA) has held her first combined alumni convention to promote unity, love and development of their alma-mater.

Speaking during the event, the Coordinator/Convener, Rev. Fr. Peter Nwansoh said that he was overwhelmed to see his dream come true, saying that he was inspired by the love for the institution that made them great in life.

“I am overwhelmed today. We want everybody to come together in this good. We are threading the path of greatness. We are not trying to be great. We are grateful to the present management and teachers, retired and late teachers of the college who shaped the lives of the students of this great college”, said Nwansoh.

Also, the Coordinating Secretary, Kenechukwu Ezeoke described the college as a great citadel of learning traceable to its background. He also commended various SCOBA sets for the projects they embarked on at the school.

“You cannot compare a school that began as a Teachers’ Training College to secondary school to special science school and back to college to other schools. Some people who were trained here as teachers later became our teachers. I commend the SCOBA sets that undertook projects like hall renovation, sinking of boreholes with overhead water tanks and others”, said Ezeoke.

The occasion chairman, Dr. Johnbosco Okafor inspired the old boys to do their best in donating funds to build facilities that would restore the beauty and glory of their alma-mater. He said that he developed interest to study medicine because of the method one Dr. Mrs. Agbasimalo who taught him biology in school.

“Here used to be  serene with flowers and fruit trees growing along the pavements. Teachers like Bishop Hilary Okeke, Monsignor Onuorah, Dr. Mrs. Agbasimalo impacted our lives both academically and spiritually. In fact, we are here to give back to the institution that made us”, said Okafor.

The duo of Felix Unachukwu and Ifeanyi Opiah in their separate speeches said they were happy for the organisers who want to unify the whole old boys and made them think home. They urged the present students to have focus and be patient to imbibe the knowledge being impacted by their teachers.

“St Charles College, Onitsha is an outstanding school. We are going to partner with the present management to lift this school to international standards. Everything I learnt here taught me a lot about life”, said Unachukwu.
