Manchester United’s hopes of signing Tottenham star dashed

Manchester United will face an even greater challenge if they are to sign Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen.

The Red Devils have long been linked with a move for the Denmark international whose form for club and country has earned him a raft of admirers from the leading clubs across Europe.

Eriksen has long been linked with a move away from the north London outfit and is out of contract in the summer, meaning he can sign a pre-contract agreement with any European suitor this month.

Earlier in the month it was reported that Eriksen was set to turn down Manchester United’s advances and instead was looking at a move abroad; Real Madrid thought to be a likely destination, while Serie A giants Inter Milan was also touted as a leading candidate.

However, La Liga rivals Barcelona have become the latest club to register their interest in Eriksen – although according to reports the Dane still looks set to join Inter later this month.

The Tottenham midfielder had set his heart on a move to Real last summer, but despite plenty of speculation, no official approach was ever made.

But now, according to Sky Sports, the Catalan giants have made an enquiry about signing the Denmark playmaker in the January transfer window.
