Chelsea’s stance on signing Real Madrid’s Luka Jovic

Chelsea are not actively trying to sign Real Madrid star Luka Jovic, despite their need to recruit a striker before the end of the transfer window on Friday. Manager Frank Lampard, however, could make a late move for the stocky forward if he runs out of other options.

Blues striker Tammy Abraham is out of action with an ankle injury and Lampard wants to get another hitman in before Friday.

Olivier Giroud could yet leave the club while Michy Batshuayi’s future is also up in the air.

Chelsea have been considering a move for Paris Saint-German’s Edinson Cavani, but he prefers a move to Atletico Madrid.

There’s also Ac Milan’s Krzysztof Piatek, who is thought to be keen on a move to the Premier League.

But Chelsea are apparently undecided on whether they want to sign him on a permanent basis.

And according to the Telegraph, Jovic is way down on Chelsea’s list of strikers, with Lampard’s not currently pursuing his signature.

Lampard is, however, keeping an eye on his situation, and could approach Real Madrid if he isn’t able to sign Piatek or Cavani.

Jovic signed for Real from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer for £52million but has since scored one league goal for Los Blancos.

After Chelsea’s win over Hull in the FA Cup on Saturday, Lampard spoke of the club’s need to get their recruitment spot on between now and Friday.

”There is no movement to speak of now. We got a punishment in the summer and it is meant to hurt you,” Lampard said.

“We lost one of the biggest players in our history in Eden Hazard.

“That is the situation. My job is to work every day on the training ground to make the players better.

“We lost ground last summer and we need to make moves now to take us forward.

“The money of it is not my job but I have to be honest and truthful. Short term recruitment is something we have to get right.”

Tottenham are also in the race for a striker, as are Manchester United.

Spurs are also working out whether they want to move for Piatek while United are understood to have been on contact with PSG over Cavani.
