CHAIRMAN of Air Peace Airlines, Allen Onyema, has been nominated as Man of the Year 2019 by a Nigeria-based maritime news magazine, Shipping World.

According to the publication, Onyema would be handed the honour in recognition of his pathfinder roles in making Air Peace one of Africa’s fastest-growing airlines.

The investiture comes up in Lagos at a date to be announced by the organisers.

Speaking in a memo to convey the nomination, Managing Editor of Shipping World, Asu Beks listed enterprise, dream and vision as sterling qualities that stand Onyema out as an entrepreneur of global repute, adding that Africans will continue to take refuge in his niche which includes provision of safe, quality and affordable air travels.

According to him, Onyema’s humanitarian and philanthropist angle to business, during the recent xenophobic uprising in South Africa, is an identity that also informs his choice as their Man of the Year, 2019.

“In an economy characterised by unstable monetary policies, volatile foreign exchange regime and an environment lacking critical promotional strategies to support indigenous entrepreneurship, it takes more than a sound business plan to channel one’s resources into a business venture.

Love for one’s country, unquenchable desire to impact on the fortunes of the younger generation and the quest to change the defeatist the narrative of Nigerian once vibrant aviation glory has become a song of hope, driving change and reenacting the power to believe in the Nigeria Project,” Beks said.
