UNIZIK SUG lauds Obiano’s environment friendliness

THE Students’ Union Government, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka (SUG, UNIZIK) in collaboration with Anambra State Waste Management Authority, last Saturday, organised another phase of “Go Clean Unizik” the first monthly sanitation exercise for the year.

  Speaking shortly after the exercise, the incumbent SUG president of the University, Samuel Jude Chimuanya expressed satisfaction over the massive participation of people during the cleanup. According to him, students, residents and business dealers around the vicinity came out in their numbers for the sanitation exercise, irrespective of the short notice given to them.

  Comr. Chimuya thanked Anambra State Waste Management Authority and all  who contributed in the sanitation exercise and promised to follow suit of his predecessor in continuous effort of having a clean and healthy environment.

  A supervisor in ASWAMA, Mr. Ogochukwu Aghadinuno who was sighted alongside some workers as refuse and debris were being packed into their truck to the dumping site, advised people to always have and attitude of keep their environment clean by making it a daily lifestyle.

  “This current student government has promised that they will not relent in their efforts even though that they were not able to mobilise trucks in regards with discussion with ASWAMA, that subsequently, they will see that they mobilise enough trucks. I’m encouraging all the people around this corridor to team up with the good work and efforts of the SUG Executives to seeing that this exercise is carried out every month” he said.

  One of the participants, the Attorney General, SUG, UNIZIK, Comr. JohnBosco Okonkwo while drawing reference to “Go Clean Unizik” campaign, said that environmental Sanitation is a must do  activity that should be a very fundamental part of the programmes of any visionary society and also that dirty environment is not habitual which according to him is scriptural too.

  The Attorney General expressed gratitude to institutions that have partnered with the Students Union Government, “I will like to first extend the tentacles of my appreciation to the Executive Governor of Anambra,

Chief Willie Obiano who has taken it upon himself that Ndi Anambra must live in a clean and healthy environment through agency that keep Anambra clean like the ASWAMA, their infallible and indifatigable co-oporation with the Union anytime they are called upon shows the level of commitment in discharge of their duties.

Not forgetting, the Vice Chancellor of this great citadal of learning, Prof Charles Esimone for perfecting goals and agenda which he termed “vision 200” and working in union with the SUG.

 I equally commend the SUG president and office of the Director of Environment for their working innovations and concern in taking the student union to a better level of  “Go Clean Unizik.”

   In an interview with our correspondent, the Director of Environment, SUG, Comr Ifeanyi Emmanuel Obiesili admonished people around Ifite Awka axis to always evacuate their waste at proper dumping site, neatly bagged and tied to avoid littering the environment  and to always make themselves available at every general sanitation exercise, in a bid to control all sorts of diseases and hazards associated with dirty environment “Cleanliness is next to Godliness” he stated.

    The former National Association of Civil Engineering Student (NACES) who was spotted during the clean up , expressed that he was impressed to see that their successors are on the right track and taking the Union to a greater height and encouraged them to keep up the good work.

  The exercise started around 7am with cool musical entertainment as participants were seen busy clearing gutters, sweeping roads and  dumping waste inside trucks at different location along Ifite Road, by UNIZIK gate ended few minutes after 10:00am
