Anambra commences immunisation , MNCHW, Sunday

ARRANGEMENTS have been concluded to commence the second round of 2019 Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week(MNCHW) and first round of 2020 National Immunization Plus Days(NIPDs) in all communities in Anambra State.

  Making this known during a state Social Mobilization Committee Meeting, Tuesday, at Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ASPHCDA), the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, ASPHCDA, Chioma Ezenyimulu, disclosed that the agency, in collaboration with partner agencies, have scheduled to hold the MNCHW between Sunday, February 9 and  Friday, February 14, 2020, while the NIPDs will hold between Saturday, February 15 and Tuesday, February 18, 2020.

  Dr Ezenyimulu further informed that the exercise will hold in all government primary health care centres, designated general hospitals, mission and private hospitals and schools, including house to house, as well as churches, mosques, schools, markets, village squares, motor parks and wherever children are found. 

 According to her, eligible persons for Vitamin A supplementation and de-worming in the MNCHW exercise are children between six months and five years while children between zero to 59 months are eligible for oral polio vaccine in the exercises irrespective of previous immunization status. She added that all routine immunization for children between 0-15 months will be according to previous immunization status for both programmes.

     She advised pregnant women and all women of child bearing age to go to the nearest health facility in company of their children to receive services of the MNCHW, which includes vitamin A, anti natal clinic, family planning , immunization, birth registration, de-worming tablets for children  and iron foliate for pregnant women, among others and urged parents,  school authorities, church leaders and others to give health workers access to their premises for the exercise to enable them reach all children

   Dr Ezenyimulu equally used the opportunity to announce that an outbreak response(OBR) exercise will hold in Onitsha south and Anambra East Local Government Areas between Saturday, February 8 and Tuesday, February 11, due to traces of polio virus discovered in a gutter in Onitsha recently.
